Travel Fire June 25
Dear Friends,
Tonight I am very worried about the situation. In 1973, our first trip to Colorado, we visited the Flying W Ranch. It is very similar to Rockin R Ranch in Mesa - chuckwagon dinner and excellent cowboy show. We had made a reservation to go there July 11. Tonight the ranch is in serious fire danger and this 60 year old attraction will not survive if the fire continues down the canyon. Yes, I am in tears.
We had a fire on Brantley Road this afternoon three miles from where we camped. Our friend, Bob Card, called us to tell us about it. Earl hopped in the Jeep and called me from the fire site. He reported five or six fire engines were there. Fortunately it was controlled quickly, and the fire fighters are watching it tonight to make sure it does not reignite.
Somehow I don’t feel tonight like reporting on Donkey Derby Days which we did Saturday in Cripple Creek. I will later this week when I can hopefully report some good news. We have done very little outside of going out for meals - not really in the mood and at 100 degrees, it’s too hot.
